Positano: Balcony Dinners

In an effort to recap our trip to Positano, we'll be posting less of a day-by-day account and more of little snippets from the trip. Andiamo!

One of our favorite ways to spend an evening in Positano, after a long leisurely day at the beach, was to hit our local market for provisions and have a nice quiet dinner on our balcony.

There were brilliantly red tomatoes:

I learned that what we Americans call heirloom tomatoes are simply everyday-available-everywhere tomatoes on the Mediterranean. Lucky ducks!

Flavorful olives and to-die-for cheeses:

The marinated olives had fennel seed in the marinade, which was new to us and proved to be wildly delicious.

There were also fantastic meats and breads, and one night, we treated ourselves to a local dessert, sweet and tart lemon cake:

The spreads looked like this:

We enjoyed balcony dinners three evenings in Positano. One of our favorite parts about those nights was watching the sun set behind the hills and seeing the lights of Positano slowly begin to glow in the fading daylight.

Looks like a great time! We'll have to make a pit-stop at Positano now that's it's in our backyard!

you're right, clare: the food is very reminiscent of the fare at the italian deli on modaff in naperville...much fresher in positano and probably tastes even better with the views--mangi!
