I'm sure you've heard it before, but the gelato in Italy really is better than anywhere else. Not quite as thick as ice cream, not quite as thin as sorbet, but just right! To embrace the gelato in Positano, my original plan was to have one gelato, of a different flavor, each day. Turns out, after the 5th day of gelato (and pasta and wine and pizza and cheese) I wasn't actually craving my afternoon gelato anymore. Five out of seven isn't bad, right?!
Day 1: Fragola (strawberry)
Local specialty since lemons are grown like grapefruits on the Amalfi Coast.
This was my second favorite.
--------------------
Day 3: Mela Verde (green apple)
I didn't like this one as much as I thought I would...
I think it was the little bits of apple skin in the gelato that kind of turned me off.
Not a bad gelato, just not my favorite.
--------------------
Day 4: Cioccolata (chocolate)
As you can imagine...heavenly.
--------------------
Day 5: Pistacchio (pistachio)
It turns out, I saved the best for last. Pistachio was my favorite.
I had never had any pistachio flavored ice cream or gelato before so I didn't really
know what to expect, but I was pleasantly surprised by the subtle
nutty and creaminess. Molto bene!
What's your favorite flavor of gelato or ice cream??

Oh man! I think that's just what I need to get through this insane European heat wave! That's it...we're getting gelatto...and SOON!
I think I have had gelato the 5 out of the 7 days I have been in Italy too. My favorite so far is orange and chocolate.
My favorite Italian gelato is DEFINITELY Stracciatella. Sooooo delicious and such a big part of my own Italian travels. If you are a lover of Chocolate Chip ice cream (my favorite) then Stracciatella is for you!
Stracciatella is good, and its the same word no matter where you get it, Italy, Germany, France, US, etc. all call it the same thing. Crazy!
But, my favorite was a scoop of hazelnut and a scoop of chocolate.
